Junior researcher agricultural water management

 

Do you have a MSC in water management, environmental sciences, agricultural sciences or a similar field? Can you combine knowledge of agricultural water management with the ability to translate research findings into practical products and procedures? Then this could be the ideal job for you!

For the team Water & Food at Wageningen Environmental Research we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Junior researcher agricultural water management. In this role, you will work on topics such as:

  • Carry out water-related assessments in the broad field of agricultural water management (e.g. Water, Energy, Food Nexus assessments, drainage & irrigation design);
  • Use models to analyse water management in agricultural systems;
  • Contribute/assist in developing research proposals to acquire new projects in the field of irrigation and drainage;
  • Develop and implement training and workshop modules to build-up capacity for adaptive delta management;
  • Contribute to applied research on adaptive and climate smart water management to enhance food security.
The Water & Food Team (W&F) develops innovations and strategies to address the challenges of water and food security worldwide. We provide core expertise to help governments, businesses, and NGOs with solutions in smart water management, freshwater ecology, water- and nutrient-efficient food-production systems, optimizing water resources, water conservation methods, and evaluating security risks related to water and food to contribute to regional political stability.

We ask

The ideal candidate has most of the skills and the expertise mentioned below:

  • A university degree (MSc) in environmental sciences, agricultural sciences or similar with international experience, a PhD is a pre;
  • Knowledge of agricultural water management (e.g. drainage, irrigation) and 1 to 5 years work experience;
  • Familiar with stakeholder analysis and scenario development;
  • Able to translate research findings into practical procedures and products (eg tools, key figures, calculation rules, etc.);
  • Willingness to travel abroad;
  • Ability to work independently on the one hand, while closely liaising with colleagues and customers on the other hand at the same time;
  • Capability to work with hydrological models and GIS;
  • Can present clear (scientific) knowledge in accessible language for various stakeholders;
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English and preferably another UN language

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 2.836,- and € 4.624,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10). Additionally, a contract for 0.8 FTE can be discussed.
