Researcher in The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology

Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 450 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 405 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated people. About us
We have an opening for a researcher position working with Associate Professor Ingrid Glimelius on clinical epidemiology within the field of haematological malignancies. We are approximately 10 people (doctoral students, postdocs, assistant professors, senior researchers) with different backgrounds but with common research interests, namely the study of different cancer forms using Swedish national registers, clinical data and with the possibility to add on biological data. Many of us are working as physicians at the Department of Oncology, Uppsala Akademiska Hospital and you should be interested in collaborations with us.
We are now seeking a talented and motivated researcher on post-doc level with training and experience in biostatistics (survival data) and epidemiology.

Duties
The research work will focus on outcome and late effects using large population-based register data. Our goal is to examine selection to treatment, inequalities in care, outcome data by different treatment strategies and to identify novel long-term consequences to many of our newly introduced drugs.
The researcher will work with an international research team to design and conduct research relevant to the research group’s agenda while receiving advanced training to enhance professional skills and
research independence.
The researcher's time will be devoted to data management, programming, analysis, manuscript preparation and career development. There are no teaching requirements but opportunities to teach can be facilitated. In addition, helping out younger PhD students in the group will be part of the duties, particularly of merit is if programming skills and statistical knowledge can be shared with younger researchers and PhD students.
The work will also be conducted in collaboration with researchers at Karolinska Institutet,
Department of Medicine, Solna to get access to data and with clinical active physicians at Department of Oncology, Uppsala Akademiska Hospital.

Entry requirements:
The successful candidate will have a strong background in epidemiology and statistical modelling with an interest in haematological malignancies. Key skills include epidemiologic study design, longitudinal and survival modeling, and manuscript writing.

  • A doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent in an appropriate field, for example epidemiology, clinical research, biostatistics, public health
  • Skills in data management, statistical analysis and modeling (SAS, STATA and/or R)
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills in English
  • Detail-oriented, professional and well-organized Knowledge/experience of the following fields is an advantage
  • Medicine, in particular oncology, haematology and immunology

Qualified to be employed as a researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

Application
Please provide the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A brief letter (maximum one page) describing why you are applying to this position, your areas of research interest and goals
