Job description

Fish and fishery products play a critical role in global food security and the nutritional needs of people around the world. Global supply of fish has grown steadily in the last five decades, however, in recent years, supply has been more variable, mostly as a result of disease-related problems caused by pathogenic microorganisms.
The project aims to find new ways to control diseases in farmed fish by identification and
characterization of key proteins potentially involved in the infection process. The knowledge gained will also be used for disease control strategies by developing new anti-oomycete drugs.
The tasks associated with the position include developing and analyzing high qualitative research and meeting aims of the project. The project involves research communication with other collaborative members of the groups in Sweden and abroad. The candidate is also expected to participate in collaborative writing of high-impact papers summarizing the results achieved.

Qualifications

Requirements

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a subject relevant for the research, such as cell and molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or microbiology. A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made. Candidates should have excellent knowledge of English and have the ability to express it in both spoken and written form. 

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
• Experience of handling, maintaining and working with various pathogenic oomycetes or other
pathogenic microorganisms.
• Experience of cloning, expression and purification of proteins in various hosts.
• Experience with in-silico and in-vitro characterization of proteins, including enzymatic
characterization.

Merit skills

  • Working experience with genomics, Crispr-cas9, and RNA-Seq data analyses.
  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
