Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Software Systems Engineering

We advance and combine applied and foundational research in several areas of software systems engineering to realize our vision: requirements engineering; model-driven software engineering; domain-specific, modeling and programming languages; formal modeling and  specification; qualitative and quantitative verification with automated reasoning, static analysis and model checking; process modelingmanagement and mining; software and system architecturesdistributed socio-technical software systems; safety, security and privacy. You will help us lead the advancement of scientific knowledge in those areas and you will expand our range of expertise towards new horizons so we can better address societal and scientific. You will contribute to our efforts to educate new generations of computer scientists and engineers in the foundations and in the state-of-the-art of methods to build, assess and improve high-quality software systems.

The assistant professor position is part of DTU’s Tenure Track program. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. Responsibilities and qualifications
Through your high-quality scientific research, you will be developing your own research profile. You have the ambition to publish your results in highly reputed international venues and to lead scientific activities, you consider as important to combine theoretical and practical aspects, and you enjoy participating in collaborative research projects. You aim at strengthening and expanding the research and research-based teaching competences of the section, and you look forward to engagin close collaboration with other members of the section and DTU Compute. You thrive to help us address current and future challenges in society and research such as (but not limited to): 

  • How to develop and assess systems with built-in safety, security, privacy, sustainability;
  • How to formally develop, assess and monitor systems with AI and data-driven components.
  • How to use and integrate AI techniques in software systems engineering.
  • How to integrate formal methods in mainstream software system engineering practices.
  • How to apply rigorous software systems engineering techniques to prominent and emerging technologies such as quantum computing, DLTs & Blockchains, IoT, and Digital Twins.

You are eager to take part in the development and implementation of research-based teaching at the bachelor, master, and PhD levels at DTU. Our teaching portfolio includes courses in topics tightly connected to our research expertise and activities: Software Systems Engineering Courses

Teaching and development of courses in synergy with research have a very high priority at DTU Compute. We are constantly developing our courses with respect to both content and educational tools and methods. The department is well-known for its modern, engaged and pedagogical teaching and prioritizes that all employees participate actively in course development. To support this, we offer all new employees university teaching courses.

You will be responsible for the teaching of courses. Master and PhD courses are taught in English, while bachelor courses are taught in Danish and in English. You will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.    

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the associate professor position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. The position is available from November 1st 2022 or according to mutual agreement.
