Postdoc in Sustainable Resource Circularity

If you are an experienced researcher within the field of Sustainability and Circular Economy, interested in pushing the boundaries of sustainability modelling, then consider joining us at DTU!

We are seeking one or several Postdocs as part of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU’s) current activities in establishing a Centre for Absolute Sustainability. A common methodological platform for technology research is currently being laid for the Centre, to which these Postdoc positions will provide important contributions, with particular focus on sustainability modelling and resource circularity.

Circular economy, material flows and resource circularity are pivotal for the transition towards a sustainable society. However, not all “circular” solutions are necessarily sustainable and circular economy in itself may not lead to absolute sustainability. Making things better is not enough – our solutions should be good enough. To support this transition, we need to develop the sustainability assessment methodologies required to appropriately integrate resource circularity, to establish the assessment modelling tools needed to achieve the right insights at system and technology levels, and to extend resource circularity into the context of absolute sustainability.

You will join an internationally leading research team with an establish track-record within environmental life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle costing (LCC), material flow analysis (MFA), resource characterisation, and circularity assessments. We work with a wide range of stakeholders within research, industry, and public authorities, in the field of circular economy, waste management and resource circularity. We address both hands-on case-studies as well as method and model development. Our intentions are always to move understanding one step further.

In addition to the scientific focus, outlined above, you will contribute to establishment of the Centre and assist with a range of the Centre’s activities within research, outreach, and education.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You should be highly motivated and self-driven, as well as have strong work ethics, team spirit and excellent collaboration skills. You take responsibility for your work in an organised and structured manner.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), preferably within environmental engineering.

As an ideal candidate, you have documented experience with the following:

  • Environmental life cycle assessment modelling and/or life cycle cost modelling of circular economy systems and recycling technologies
  • Material flow analysis at system and regional level
  • Uncertainty analysis, statistical data management
  • Programming and establishment of mathematical models
  • Planetary boundaries and absolute sustainability concepts
  • Scientific writing and publication at international journal level

Good command of written and spoken English is required. Experience with interdisciplinary is necessary to ensure a strong collaboration with the other colleagues within the Centre.
