Research Assistant in cancer genetics (Future PhD-student)


 The Research Unit of Clinical Genetics, Department of Clinical Research, invites applications for a position as research assistant in cancer genetics (bioinformatics/ molecular genetics) in preparation for a 3-year Ph.D. position.


The Ph.D. project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Department of Genetics at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen (where part of the working hours will lie).

The position is vacant from September 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

As research assistant you will be a part of a research group aiming to develop methods for interpretation of genetic data and improving understanding of important clinical and biological aspects of cancer including biological mechanisms, diagnostics, prognosis and choice of treatment. Advanced genome analyses and bioinformatics is applied to the large amounts of often very complex data. The projects are inter-disciplinary collaborations between clinicians, bioinformaticians, genome interpreters and the data includes genome and RNA sequencing using short read and long read technologies.

In collaboration with the project team the new research assistant will be expected to plan a Ph.D. project in preparation for a subsequent already financed Ph.D. position .

Expectations of qualifications

The applicant will be expected to:

  • Have a Master’s degree in science or engineering
  • Have a speciality in bioinformatics, biomedicine, molecular biology or similar
  • Preferably have experience in analysis and interpretation of complex data e.g. DNA, RNA and long-read sequencing data and biological problems.

Salary and terms of employment

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The position is temporary and will be available from September 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022.
