Junior Scientist with expertise in bioinformatics

 As a researcher you will contribute to the research in the following fields: genomics, animal breeding, and computational biology.


Your will be:

  • working on a variety of ongoing projects within the Animal Breeding and Genomics group.
  •  involved in the analyses of large data sets (genome sequences, RNAseq data and SNP genotype data) form a variety of species.
  • be responsible for the development and maintenance of analyses pipelines on the WUR high performance computer Anuna. Ofcourse in close collaboration with ABG staff scientist
  • responsible for the data management according to the established data management plan of ABG.
You will work in a team with in the Animal Breeding and Genomics Group.

Your qualities

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant biological field (Genomics, Bioinformatics, computational biology, developmental biology or evolutionary biology) or in a quantitative field (Statistics).
  • You have expertise in programming on linux based computer platforms and using large genomic data sets.
Further preferred skills:
  • Expertise in analyses of whole genome sequence, RNAseq and SNP genotype data
  • Interest in quantitative genetic concepts
  • Good organizational and excellent communication skills (both spoken and written in English)
  • Ability to work in a team of diverse scientists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Scientific track record with publications.
 You  should have:
  • A proven affinity for working with and/or developing bioinformatics pipelines.
  • A strong interest in comparative biological analysis and computational biology.
  • A strong interest in fundamental and applied research.
  • Be creative and innovative.
  • Good organisational and (written and spoken) communication skills in English, as well as a proven ability to collaborate with others.
In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. 
For this position your command of the English language is expected to be at B2 level. If you do not yet have this level, we will of course help you and you can go to our language center Wagenigen in'to Language.

You will initially receive a one-year contract, which will be extended with an additional year upon mutual enthusiasm.

Animal Breeding and Genomics
