The Center for Mathematical Sciences at LTH is Hiring an Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics with Focus on Medical Image Analysis

The position will be based at the Division of Computer Vision and Machine Learning (CVML) at the Center for Mathematical Sciences (https://www.maths.lu.se). The Centre for Mathematics Sciences is a joint institution of the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) and the Faculty of Science (N) at Lund University, where the mentioned division formally belongs to LTH.

CVML consists of ten senior researchers and about 20 PhD students. Research in the area of image analysis and computer vision started in the mid-1980s and currently includes (i) Geometry and Computer Vision, (ii) Medical Image Analysis, and (iii) Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. The division has extensive experience of basic research in computer vision, image analysis and machine learning, as well as a history of translating research results into practical applications for end users. In Medical Image Analysis, the division has worked on a wide range of topics, including radiology, MR-imaging, digital pathology, scintigraphy and ultrasound for the diagnosis of, for example, prostate cancer, breast cancer, dementia and skin cancer, as well as in cardiology and myocardial ischemia.

Subject

Applied mathematics with focus on medical image analysis

Subject description

The research area is mathematical and statistical analysis of images, text and other data modalities with applications in the medical field. This includes in particular the development, analysis, and application of methods from machine learning and statistical learning to problems in medical image analysis. The data mainly involves MR- and X-ray images as well as scintigraphy, microscopy and ultrasound images, but can even be multimodal medical data consisting, for instance, of a combination of images, one-dimensional signals, and patient data in the form of text. The research has a wide range of medical applications, such as  digital pathology, cardiology, dermatology, oncology, etc.

Work duties

Employment as an assistant professor is a tenure track position, which aims for the holder to develop their independence as a researcher and educator.
