Uppsala University is seeking a PhD candidate for a position focused on data-driven modeling of ocean-based renewable energy systems within the Department of Electrical Engineering. This role is part of a collaborative effort to address the challenges of securing sustainable electricity supply while minimizing environmental impact.

Project Description:
The PhD project will concentrate on offshore renewable energy systems, particularly wave power and floating offshore wind technologies. The candidate will develop methods to predict non-linear dynamics and vulnerabilities through data-driven techniques, computational fluid dynamics simulations, and machine learning. The position offers a dynamic work environment at the Division of Electricity, where candidates will collaborate with a network of researchers and industry stakeholders.

Duties:

  • Conduct research using numerical simulations and data-driven methods on offshore renewable energy systems.
  • Write research papers and present findings at project meetings and international conferences.
  • Participate in research projects and complete required doctoral courses (60 credits).
  • Engage in teaching activities, such as tutorials and lab supervision, accounting for a maximum of 20% of work time.

Requirements:

  • A master’s degree in engineering or science with a focus on energy systems, electrical engineering, engineering physics, or a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written English proficiency.
  • Strong personal qualities including motivation, structure, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
