Project Description
The project investigates new cell biological functions of the complement regulators CD59 and COMP. The focus is on their potential role in diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and certain types of cancer. The project is experimental and involves many advanced cell and molecular biology methods, as well as animal models.
Job Responsibilities
The main task of a doctoral student is to pursue their doctoral education, which includes participation in research projects and doctoral courses. You will therefore be both a registered student and employed at Lund University. The tasks will be carried out within the framework of the doctoral education in the project “Non-canonical Roles of Complement Regulators.” The main responsibilities include:
- Planning and conducting experiments using advanced methods in cell and molecular biology
- Applying animal models to investigate the significance of newly identified processes
- Analyzing experimental data, performing advanced statistical analyses, and compiling results in scientific reports
Eligibility
Basic eligibility for education at the doctoral level is granted to those who:
- Have a degree at the advanced level, completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, either in Sweden or abroad
- Have a good ability to benefit from doctoral education
Requirements for the Position
- Master’s degree in Molecular Biology
- Documented experience in statistical analysis of experimental data, such as ANOVA and regression analysis using linear mixed-effects models
- Documented experience in experimental work in cell biology (cell culture, quantitative western blotting, siRNA, RT-PCR, confocal microscopy) within research activities (in addition to undergraduate courses)
- Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as the ability to work independently, initiative, thoroughness, teamwork, responsibility, and scientific integrity

- Experience in programming (e.g., R) and data software such as GraphPad, SPSS, Fiji, Zen
- Excellent English skills, both in reading comprehension and writing, as well as the ability to write scientific texts in English
- Good knowledge in Swedish, in speech and writing
Assessment Criteria
Regulations for employment as a doctoral student can be found in the SFS 1998:80. Only those admitted to doctoral education may be employed as a doctoral student. When appointing, special emphasis should be placed on the ability to benefit from doctoral education. In addition to being required to pursue one’s own doctoral education, the appointee may also be required to perform teaching, research, and administrative duties under specific provisions in the regulations.
Terms of Employment
The employment is a fixed-term position for a total of four years, 100%, with a preliminary start date of 2025-03-05 or as agreed.
Regulations regarding employment as a doctoral student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1-7. Regulations concerning admission to doctoral studies are found in Chapter 6, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100).
