Postdoctoral Researcher in Sea Level and Ice Sheets in a Changing Climate

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at McGill University invites applications for a fully-funded Postdoctoral Researcher position in Prof. Natalya Gomez’s research group beginning inSeptember 2025. The start date is flexible and the position is part of several openings for postdoctoral researchers and PhD and MSc students in Dr. Natalya Gomez’s group in Fall 2025 and beyond.The Researcher will work in collaboration with Dr. Gomez on a range of possible projects either 1) under the broad theme of modeling and observations of ice sheet dynamics, glacial isostatic adjustment and global sea levels, or 2) at the interface between sea level projection science and coastal resilience.Candidates should indicate in their cover letter which theme interests them, describing their fit and preparation accordingly.

For the first theme, candidates must have a doctoral degree in geophysics, glaciology, sea level science, geodesy, paleo or modern climatology, glaciology, oceanography, or a related subject with strong quantitative research skills and familiarity with numerical modeling.Candidates should explain the relevance of their background to Dr. Gomez’s research program.

For the second theme, candidates must have a PhD in a relevant subject and ability to engage with related scientific literature.A background or interest in some of the following fields will be an asset: climate and environmental policy and decision-making, community engagement, science communication for policy making, statistics and interdisciplinary research. Candidates should explain the relevance of their background (including work experience, even if unrelated to climate) to possible research directions.

The position is for 2 years, with possibility for an extension depending on progress and available funding.The annual salary will be $55,000. The position includes a maximum relocation allowance of $2,500. Postdocs at McGill must remain within 5 years of being awarded their Ph.D. throughout their appointment, and therefore applicants must have been awarded their Ph.D. within three years of their start date.

Review of applications will begin on May 10th, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. Start date is negotiable but ideally the candidate would begin by early September 2025.
