About the opportunity
We are one of the largest mathematical sciences schools in Australia, and the University of Sydney is the only Australian university to have received the highest rating of 5 out of 5 for research in the mathematical sciences in every Australian Research Council Excellence in Research for Australia assessment to date. The University also hosts the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute (SMRI), which attracts leading mathematical scientists from all over the world to undertake research with Australian collaborators.
The Sydney Mathematical Research Institute is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher in Pure or Applied Mathematics. This position, based primarily in Sydney, will include 2 x 6 month periods at Princeton University in the USA. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of an academic within the School of Mathematics and Statistics, who aligns with their research field of interest. The candidate will also support the research and outreach activities at SMRI.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- demonstrate research excellence in pure or applied mathematics
- develop research collaborations
- assist with grant writing and publishing original work
- supervise students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- develop your profile and the profile of SMRI in the areas of mathematics and computation through conferences and seminars
About you

- a PhD (or near completion) in mathematics
