Organizational unit
Institute for Applied Materials – Materials Science and Engineering (IAM-WK)
Job description
As part of the project in the field of ‘structure and stress analysis’, you will work independently on the further development of measurement and evaluation strategies for the experimental analysis of residual stresses in metallic structural materials and on the practical implementation of these strategies. In particular, it concerns the additive manufacturing of components made of high-strength steel using deposition welding.
Your activities include:
- Further development of methods for the analysis of residual stress distributions on all size scales
- Practical implementation of the methodology on current issues in materials science and materials engineering
- Conducting numerical simulations to verify and calibrate the methodology
- Accompanying microstructure and microstructure analyses using light and electron microscopic methods and diffraction methods
- Study and critical evaluation of specialist literature
- Data evaluation and graphical preparation as well as publication in scientific journals and presentation at international conferences
In addition to the diverse research methods at KIT, they have the opportunity to carry out additional analyses on large-scale research equipment (e.g. at DESY, ESRF).
There is the possibility of completing a doctorate alongside employment.
