Duration: 12 months, renewable for 12 additional months.

Start Date: July 1 2025 (or agreed upon time).

Salary: $56,000 CAD per annum, plus University of Calgary Plan C health benefits.

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Gambling Studies.

Job Description:

A full-time Postdoctoral Scholar (PDS) opportunity is available at the University of Calgary, Canada, to begin on or about July 1, 2025 under the supervision of Dr. David Hodgins. This PDS will contribute to a variety of projects aimed at gaining deeper insights into gambling and gambling disorder, with a particular emphasis on prevention, harm minimization and treatment. The PDS will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with researchers from various faculties across campus (e.g., psychology, medicine, community health, computer science), community organizations, and institutions across the country and internationally. In addition, the PDS will expand research in these areas through the development of complementary research proposals.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant social science discipline. Note: Applicants must have completed their degree within the last 5 years.
  • Expertise in clinical research related to gambling, addiction, mental health or public health.
  • A strong background in quantitative data analysis.
  • Knowledge of quantitative data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated productivity for peer-reviewed publications.
  • Interest in working collaboratively with research partners, as well as supervision and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students.
