The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Qualitative Research.
Job Description:
The Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST) Research Program is currently recruiting a 2-year Postdoctoral Fellow to begin in March 2025. The primary focus of this position will be to support Qualitative Research activities related to understanding the mental health services available to patients who are diagnosed with a concussion and/or mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI).
Qualitative interviews and focus groups will be conducted primarily in-person at the Cal Wenzel Precision Health Building located on the University of Calgary¿s Foothills Medical Centre Campus in Calgary, Alberta. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. Araba Chintoh at the Mathison Centre for Medical Research and Education (https://hbi.ucalgary.ca/mathison).
The successful candidate will lead qualitative research activities including Qualitative Focus Groups and Qualitative Key Informant Interviews to explore: (1) mental health services available to patients when being assessed for concussion/mTBI and (2) mental health services accessed by patients after being diagnosed with a concussion/mTBI. Additionally, the successful candidate will study: (1) the impact of accessing mental health services and (2) the unmet mental health service needs of patients and clinicians after the diagnosis of a concussion/mTBI.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must have obtained a PhD in a relevant field.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate experience working in mental health research.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate experience working in a clinical setting.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in designing qualitative research studies using various methodologies (e.g. grounded theory, phenomenology, ethnography, etc.).
- The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in conducting qualitative research (e.g. facilitating focus groups and/or 1:1 interviews).
- The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in analyzing qualitative research (e.g. thematic analysis) using NVivo software.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
