Your role
We seek a motivated Doctoral Researcher to push the boundaries of laser-welding. Specifically steel-cemented carbide bonds shall be investigated, this field is at the intersection of material science and industrial application.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing an experimental strategy for investigating the main parameters influencing the weld quality between steel and cemented carbides
- Conducting the previously defined experiments in lab and production environment on Laser welding machines
- Optimizing testing procedures and conducting testing of the manufactured welds
- Analyzing by advanced techniques the metallurgy of the heat effected zone to unravel microstructural secrets in these very special dissimilar material joints
- Interpreting all the obtained results
- Collaborating with industry partners to translate this relevant research into solutions for the real-world
- Mentoring students, contribute to teaching, and presenting breakthroughs at international conferences
This project is embedded in the CERATIZIT Chair for Hard and Advanced Materials, a newly established, dynamic research group focused on solving industrial challenges through groundbreaking material science.
Your profile
- Master in Material Science or similar
- Curiosity and self-motivation
- Experience in Laser welding
- Proficiency in English is required, French, German or Luxemburgish is considered as an asset
