We are looking for an up-and-coming researcher who wants to conduct pioneering research to take up a position as Assistant Professor (Associate Senior Lecturer) in the field of resilient crime prevention.
The position will be based either at the Department of Law within the Faculty of Law or at the School of Social Work within the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Duties – what we expect from you
We want you to thrive and make the most of your time at Lund University and the Department of Law or School of Social Work. As an associate senior lecturer, you will therefore have the opportunity to engage wholeheartedly in the research you are passionate about. As the holder of this position, most of your time will be allocated for your own research in collaboration with strong research environments, research infrastructures and international platforms.
In addition to conducting research, during your time as associate senior lecturer you will also develop your teaching expertise, outreach and collaboration skills, along with Swedish language proficiency. Throughout your employment, you are an active member of your department and participant in its diverse work.
We hope that one of your first duties will be to conduct an innovative research project that is funded by the Swedish Research Council.
Your duties will primarily involve research in collaboration with practitioners in the field of crime prevention. Teaching is also part of the position. You will work within the framework of the strategic research area Building Resilience in Crime Prevention (BRiC): Advancing Professional Knowledge of Child Vulnerability, Drug Markets and Emerging Technologies, which is run by the Faculties of Law and Social Sciences. BRiC is a unique collaboration between academia and frontline professions in social services and the justice system (police, prosecutors, courts and the prison- and probation service). Centred on three interrelated challenges – child vulnerability, drug markets and new technologies – BRiC aims to understand, explain and improve professional competence and the organisational capabilities for crime prevention work.
Qualifications for employment as an assistant professor
You must hold a PhD or possess equivalent academic qualifications in social work, sociology, criminology or another social science subject; alternatively, you must hold a Doctor of Law (Juris Doctor) degree in criminal law or public law, or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a Doctor of Law (Juris Doctor) degree in criminal law or public law, or have attained equivalent academic qualifications. We will give priority to applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree within the last 5 years, calculated from the closing date for applications for the post, unless there are special reasons to the contrary. Special reasons normally refer to parental leave or illness (see Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance).
Requirements – what you must have
To be able to be appointed as an associate Senior lecturer within the framework of Lund University Programme for Global Excellence, the applicant must have:
- A good ability to initiate, develop and implement high-quality research
- Good teaching ability
- Recent and relevant experience from research in criminal law, public law, social work, sociology, criminology or another social science discipline, outside Sweden
- A project plan for innovative research within the area resilient crime prevention, that you submit with your application
- Documented good leadership skills, e.g. through elected office assignments, leadership courses and assessed leadership skills
- Good communication skills
- Very good oral and written English language skills
- A motivation and the ability to learn Swedish
- not received any salary or grant from Swedish employers or funding bodies from 31 December 2022 onwards
Additional qualifications – other credentials that we consider desirable
We want you to thrive at Lund University and be able to make the best of your time at the Department of Law or School of Social Work, and we would like you to demonstrate that you can:
- Contribute in a positive way to the work environment
- Have or have had a postdoctoral appointment
- Currently hold an international position in the research field
- Have experience of applying and obtaining research funding from funding bodies outside Sweden
Form of employment
Fixed-term position, 4 years, in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance, with the opportunity for promotion to permanent employment as a senior lecturer.
Promotion – what is required to be promoted to senior lecturer after 4 years?
When you are an associate senior lecturer you can apply for promotion to permanent employment as a senior lecturer. You will undergo a special assessment to determine if you fulfil the faculty’s requirements for employment as a senior lecturer. It is important for you to know that you can only apply once for promotion and that you must apply for promotion at least six months before your employment as an associate senior lecturer ends.
When you apply for promotion, you will be assessed based on whether you have:
- Developed within your field during your time as an associate senior lecturer
- A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience is to be assessed with consideration given to the character and traditions of the subject.
- Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
- An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
- An ability to cooperate with wider society and communicate their activities.
- A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Please note that employment at the Department of Law requires a Doctor of Laws degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a Doctor of Laws degree, or the demonstration of equivalent academic competence.
- A curriculum vitae with supporting documents.
- A description of your research and teaching activities.
- A brief description of your experience in leadership and/or administration, as well as collaboration.
- A complete list of publications (co-author certificates are required for co-authored publications).
- A list of the doctoral dissertation and other cited scientific texts.
- The cited publications (max. 3).
- Any other documents the applicant wishes to submit.
- Research plan specifying the research the applicant intends to pursue during the term of employment as an assistant professor. The plan may not exceed 2,000 words, including references (Times New Roman, 11-point font).
- Statement confirming that you have not received a salary or scholarship from Sweden since December 31, 2022
