The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, around 120 PhD students and about 140 employees.
Our research group, Global Disaster Medicine – Health Needs and Response, focuses on health and health system responses to disasters and in humanitarian settings. We are an international group working in medicine, global health, health systems, and policy. We offer a lively and engaging environment to work on research, education, and policy advice and expertise.
Your mission
For this job, you will collaborate with senior researchers in the Global Disaster Medicine – Health Needs and Response research group at GPH, KI, to assist us in writing project proposals and identifying new sources for funding as well as strategic networks for future grant applications. Working with the research group team, your primary tasks would include:
- Conducting literature reviews for grant proposals across the group’s main research areas, to summarize the main findings and knowledge gaps
- Support writing sections of proposals, under supervision.
- Mapping other projects, grants, individuals and research groups globally who are conducting research on the topics
- Identify target funding sources and grants for the coming years .
- Coordinating and providing administrative support for grant application submissions with collaborative partners and the groups researcher.
- Supporting the group through other research tasks
We seek a full-time research assistant for a time limited period of 12 months.
Your profile
You should have:
- A master’s degree in global health, public health sciences, or humanitarian health
- Proficient knowledge of health and health systems in disasters and humanitarian settings
- Documented experience writing literature reviews
- Experience with grant applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
The following are considered strong merits for the position:
- Experience working within international research collaborations
- Experience in assisting with applications for research funding
- Documentation of scientific writing skills
The applicant should be proactive, reliable, efficient, and able to work independently. The applicant should also have strong organizational skills as well as a strong interest in research on health in disasters and humanitarian settings. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability in the appointment.
