The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

The behavior and physiology of microorganisms significantly determines the fate of the infection. Thereby, multicellular behavior (biofilm formation) of microorganisms is an ancient behavior against stress that results in chronic infections of pathogens. You are the right applicant for this position, if you are self-driven, highly engaged, have ambitious goals, want to do high-quality research resulting in documented achievements. A plus is if you like to work on the molecular basis of a challenging and important clinical problem with up to date experimental approaches to create novel knowledge at the forefront of the research.

Your mission

As a research assistant, you will be responsible for your specific part of the research project(s) that deals with regulation of multicellular behavior in microorganisms and their evolution. Your experimental approach includes standard experimental approaches in molecular bacteriology, bacterial genetics and molecular biology with the potential to develop advanced techniques. In this context you are expected to collaborate within the research group and teach visiting students. Engagement in the preparation of scientific publications is expected. We offer active participation in scientific meetings on all levels.

Working language is english.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a research assistant, you must at least have completed Master studies.

In addition to the aforementioned requirements, you must have

  • Demonstrated experience in molecular (micro)biology techniques in microorganisms
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work on and organize independently a research project practically and theoretically
  • Theoretical and practical experience to work with Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Demonstrate ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Fluency in written and spoken (scientific) English
  • Excellent communication skills

It is meritorious if you can demonstrate

  • Demonstrated research expertise with excellent outcome.
  • Basic knowledge in bioinformatics and/or programming languages
