The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. IFF has approximately 150 employees and a revenue of nearly 180 million SEK. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competences are computational modelling and simulations, PKPD, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, development of biological medicines, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competences within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.

Our scientific focus areas in selection: • Biologics • Clinical Pharmacy • Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology• Pharmacometrics • Pharmacodynamics • Pharmacokinetics • Pharmacoeconomics • Pharmacoepidemiology • Pharmacotherapy • Social Pharmacy

Duties

The research concerns development of a natural history pharmacometrics framework for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD), an inherited genetic kidney disorder, to support development of new drug therapies for this inherited genetic kidney disorder. ADPKD is characterized by progressive renal cyst growth and kidney enlargement, decline in eGFR and requirement for renal replacement therapy. The framework development will be based on several longitudinal real world data bases including both traditional and newly derived covariates, biomarkers and endpoints of relevance for the disease. The research offers a possibility to mechanism-based model development utilizing non-linear mixed effects models for predicting disease trajectories and the population and individual level, supporting decisions on treatment options and trial designs. The project will be performed in international collaboration with multi-disciplinary experts (clin pharm, pharmacometrics, biostats and imaging) of our industrial partner. The candidate is expected to take a leading role in the collaborative meetings  and will be involved in writing scientific publications and part in the dissemination of research findings nationally and internationally.

Requirements

PhD degree in pharmacometrics or a related field or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in the specified field. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and interest in the areas of pharmacometrics and mechanism-based modeling. The applicant should have good collaboration and communication skills, with ability to express him/herself well, in both oral and written English. A demonstrated capability to conduct and complete a scientific project in a structured and methodological manner is required. Experience of programming in R and pharmacometrics software such as NONMEM or Monolix.

Additional qualifications

Prior experience of real-world data research and disease trajectory modelling is advantageous. Interest and skill in scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience of working in an international environment.

Application: The application should consist of a cover letter, CV, publication list, certificates of relevant degrees, an outline of the PhD thesis, and a short research statement describing the applicant’s research experiences and interests. The application should also include the names of two reference persons.
