The Department of Zoology is one of the departments at the Faculty of Science. The main research areas are Ethology, Ecology, Population Genetics, Functional Morphology and Systematics.

Main responsibilities
The applicant’s main responsibilities would be to implement bioinformatics workflows to perform variant calling from whole-genome sequencing data across 10 pied flycatcher, Ficedula hypoleuca, populations. For this purpose, the applicant will take advantage of a chromosome-level genome assembly of the pied flycatcher, which has recently been generated by our group. The applicant would also implement key downstream analyses including assessing population genetic divergence, admixture, and evolutionary history using genomic data from 10 populations. Finally, the applicant could be involved in leveraging RNA sequencing and other data to aid in genome annotation. The applicant would be working in an international collaborative project funded by the European Research Council.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for someone with experience in developing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines using large numbers of individuals in a population genetics context. Experience with songbird genomes is advantageous as is experience in genome annotation. The applicant must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Terms of employment
This is a fixed-term position until 2025-10-31. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. Start date immediately.
