The Academy of Music and Drama is currently looking to hire a senior lecturer in dance who will be teaching street dance, primarily within the Musical Theatre Programme. We are looking for someone who is an active dancer and extensive experience within the field. The training will focus on the different urban dance genres that sometimes fall within the term street dance.

Duties 

The work will be conducted independently with support from the head of the programme. The position involves teaching dance primarily to students from the bachelor’s programme in Musical Theatre, although some students from other groups may also attend. Teaching will take place at the campus and the work involves planning and carrying out dance classes, providing oral feedback to students, choreographing teaching material adapted to the contents described in the curricula, as well as preparing the students for their future professional careers. This will require familiarity with musical theatre both nationally and internationally. Teaching will be conducted in Swedish and/or English.

The work also involves attending staff meetings, unit meetings and employee meetings at the department. Other assignments within the department and faculty may also be part of the duties. Responsibilities and tasks may change over time. Time for skill development is included in the position in accordance with University of Gothenburg Agreement on Working Hours for teachers.

There may also be remote teaching in accordance with university regulations.

Eligibility 

The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. 

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer the candidate must demonstrate teaching skills, by having completed a second-cycle university education or by having the corresponding knowledge or some other skill of importance to the subject content of the position and the tasks that are part of the employment.

This position will require experience of teaching dance at university level in one or more of the dance genres that fall under the umbrella term of street dance, as well as experience of working professionally in musicals or musical theatre as a dancer or musical theatre artist.

The position also requires excellent knowledge of Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria 

The evaluation is made on the basis of artistic and teaching skills as well as other forms of expert knowledge.

Artistic skill refers to the candidate’s:

– Comprehensive artistic and professional experience of the subject area

– Skills within some of the dance genres that fall within the term street dance. This will be demonstrated through a class given in connection with the job interview

– Documented professional experience of working with musicals and/or musical theatre as a dancer and/or musical theatre artist corroborated by employer certificates

– Active participation in various networks within the field

Teaching skill refers to the candidate’s:

– Documented experience of teaching dance at university level within some of the genres that fall within the term street dance, corroborated by employer certificates

– Comprehensive experience of university-level teaching and course development, including development of course material

Miscellaneous:

– Good administrative skills relevant to teaching

– Experience and good knowledge of the Canvas learning management system or the equivalent thereof

The candidate’s personal suitability will also be taken into consideration for the appointment.

Applicants who have not already completed the courses in pedagogy for higher education as provided by the university (or the equivalent thereof) will be expected to do so within the first two years of employment. We will conduct an overall assessment and employ the candidate who is considered to possess the best qualifications for implementing and developing the aforementioned tasks.

Employment 

Starting date: 2027-01-01 or as agreed on.

The position i limited to 5 years in accordance with chapter 4, section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance, Teachers in Disciplines in the Fine, Applied or Performing Arts. There is a possibility of extending the term by another five years. This form of employment has a maximum term of 10 years.

10 % of full-time.
