Your team
The Support Labs team is part of the Beamline Office group and oversees MAX IV’s user support laboratories—including the Biology lab, Chemical labs, Sample Environment labs, Detector Support lab, and specialized workshops. These facilities provide visiting scientists and staff with access to specialized equipment and expert support for sample preparation, characterization, and manipulation.

MAX IV is looking for a highly motivated and service-oriented lab technician to join our Support Labs team.
Your main work tasks will be
- Schedule and conduct lab access training for users of the Biology and Chemical Support Labs, ensuring a safe and smooth user experience.
- Provide instrument-specific training to users, overseeing instrument usage and adherence to standard operating procedures, and offering ongoing user support.
- Perform routine laboratory functions to support scientific experiments and investigations, including maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of nessessary necessary lab supplies, ensuring stock levels are adequate for user needs.
- Set up, test, adjust, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus, such as balances, pipettes, pH meters, and centrifuges.
- Record, analyze, and prepare reports, protocols, and summaries related to experiments.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment, including glove boxes, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, etcand related equipment.
- Maintain high standards of quality for labware and supplies.
- Enforce strict health and safety regulations.
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- Proven experience in a lab technician role.
- Proficiency in calibrating and maintaining technical laboratory equipment.
- Ability to learn and apply specific scientific techniques.
- Capability to operate technical equipment with high accuracy and efficiency.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Strong time management skills.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in small teams.
Below are seen as merits
- A University/Master degree in a relevant field such as biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience writing instruction manuals or standard operating procedures.
- Experience using a laboratory management system.
- Experience working in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research infrastructure hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden and abroad, with intense x-rays and state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Its 16 beamlines receive up to 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-rays.
