Work assignments
Your duties include taking responsibility for our participation in the EU project Materials Commons, which is about developing a European platform for materials-related data. This involves both extracting knowledge from text data and building AI capabilities that leverage the data sources. You are expected to carry out the work independently in collaboration with other partners and by engaging relevant individuals at LiU.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
Qualifications
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our interdisciplinary research group. You should enjoy working as part of a team and be willing to learn from your colleagues while sharing your own knowledge and experience with them. You will also be encouraged to contribute to the training of junior group members and to collaborate with other group members across various projects.
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
We are looking for someone with strong merits in AI/ML/NLP and have shown independence and excellence in your research. You should have published your research at leading AI/ML/NLP venues such as AAAI, ACL, EMNLP, ICML, IJCAI, or NeurIPS. Knowledge and experience in other fields, particularly materials science, is an advantage.
Scientific curiosity and the ability to think independently are essential qualities. As a person, you are solution-oriented, take initiative, and have excellent collaborative skills. You are also flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. You have the ability to manage and drive multiple parallel activities and projects in an independent, structured, and thorough manner. You are expected to plan and organize your work effectively and to set and meet given deadlines.
Please motivate in your cover letter why you are interested in the position and why you are particularly well suited for it.
