The Department of Building and Environmental Technology, Division of Risk Management and Societal Safety, is recruiting 3 teaching assistants to be placed at the Division of Risk Management and Societal Safety.
Description of the workplace
The Division of Risk Management and Societal Safety, at the Department of Building and Environmental Technology, conducts research and teaching in societal risk and crisis management. The focus of the research and teaching is to develop knowledge on how individuals, organizations, and society prevent, prepare for, manage, recover from, and learn and adapt to events that may threaten something of value. We also conduct research focused on developing methods, processes, and other types of artifacts that can be used to better understand and manage risks, crises, and disasters in a variety of contexts.
Work duties
As a teaching assistant, your tasks can vary and are intended to provide insight into the academic world at the faculty where you are studying.
The duties include:
- Participation in teaching in one of the following courses (specify in your application which course(s) you are interested in teaching):
-Societal Safety and Resilience (VRSN01) and Capacity development (VBRN35) as providing feedback to students on reflection assignments.
-Fundamentals of Decision Making and Decision Analysis (VRSA10) – teacher for exercises. - Administration.
Qualification requirements
Only those admitted to first or second-cycle courses and study programmes at the faculty may be employed as teaching assistants.
Required qualifications:
- Enrolled in the Master of Science in Risk Management, or the Master of Science in Risk, Safety and Crisis Management, or the Master’s program in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Adaptation, or the Fire Protection Engineering program at LTH, or another relevant program as determined by the employer.
- For teaching assistant in the course Societal Safety and Resilience (VRSN01) and Capacity development (VBRN35): passing grade in Societal Safety and Resilience (VRSN01) and Capacity development (VBRN35) or an equivalent course, and excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
- For teaching assistant in the course Fundamentals of Decision Making and Decision Analysis (VRSA10): passing grade in Fundamentals of Decision Making and Decision Analysis (VRSA10) or an equivalent course, and excellent knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
Additional requirements:
- High grades in the course mentioned above for the respective teaching assistant position.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Patience and the ability to express oneself clearly.
- Independence and the ability to work collaboratively.

Further information
The employment is limited to the following periods:
- For the teaching assistant in the course Societal Safety and Resilience (VRSN01) and Capacity development (VBRN35): Period 31/8-27/11 på 8%.
- For the teaching assistant in the course Fundamentals of Decision Making and Decision Analysis (VRSA10): Period 31/8-22/12 på 6%.
Agreements on other time periods can be made if necessary. Teaching is organised according to the established schedule for each course.
The employment must not affect the Teaching Assistant’s studies in a negative way.
The employment as a Teaching Assistant is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), 5 chapter 8-12 §§.
The position is covered by the Working Time Agreement for Teachers.
